Venetian Night
Chicago Riverwalk, Chicago, IL 60601
About this happenin
Venetian Night is a lighted boat parade on the Main Branch of the Chicago River, watched from the Chicago Riverwalk. The Italian American Human Relations Foundation of Chicago puts it on. From 6:30 p.m. strolling musicians and singers in Venetian costume work the river's edge, and the boats set off at 7:30 as night falls. Anything that floats can enter. Crews string their boats with lights for cash prizes of up to $2,000, and you can register your own boat or rent a Retro, Duffy or pontoon for the night. Spectators are asked to bring lawn chairs and a picnic basket and settle in along the water. The foundation also holds a VIP reception where guests watch the parade over dinner and drinks, and restaurants on the Riverwalk can sign up to take part.
