Black Harvest Film Festival
164 N State St, Chicago, IL 60601
About this happenin
The Black Harvest Film Festival, Chicago's yearly showcase of Black film from across the diaspora, takes over the Gene Siskel Film Center at 164 N. State Street in the Loop each November. Sergio Mims co-founded it in response to the long absence of Black filmmakers on screen and in the places that show films. Shorts and features share the program, and new work by emerging and established directors plays next to repertory and restoration screenings. The festival curator shapes the slate. Opening night is priced above a regular screening. Regular screenings sell one at a time or in six-film passes, and one of the passes bundles in opening night. A volunteer community council helps plan the festival and acts as its ambassador around the city.
More in November: 8 other Chicago events.
