From Port Angeles, Washington, Hurricane Ridge is 17 miles and 45 minutes uphill, and the Hoh Rain Forest is 91 miles and 2 hours 15 minutes away. One or two areas a day is plenty. Highway 101 is one lane each way. On summer weekends the wait to get into the Ridge or the Hoh can run one to two hours, so go to the Hoh before 8 a.m. or after 5 p.m. In winter the Ridge road opens Friday through Sunday and on holiday Mondays, weather permitting, for cars carrying chains. For the tide pools at Hole-in-the-Wall, a sea-carved arch about an hour's walk up Rialto Beach, get there at least 30 minutes before low tide, best on a tide under a foot.
