The Army bought the pink Don CeSar on St. Pete Beach for a hospital in 1942, and it didn't reopen as a resort until 1973. For restrooms and showers, use the county beach access at 4700 Gulf Blvd, which has three boardwalks to the sand. Pass-a-Grille, a separate town until 1957, keeps its shops and restaurants around 8th Avenue, and the metered spaces on Gulf Way there are easiest to get at the north and south ends. Pull in nose first; backing in is illegal.
