Rides leave from Everglades City and last about an hour, starting slow on the Barron River before the captain opens it up through mangrove tunnels and narrow creeks. The family that has run it since 1982 is licensed for 24 airboats and keeps five. Each carries six people at most, and two-way headsets let you talk with the captain. Airboats aren't allowed in Everglades National Park or Big Cypress National Preserve, which surround the town, so these tours keep to the trails airboats are permitted to use. There are no tours on Sundays.
