Zoo Lights turns the Houston Zoo at 6200 Hermann Park Drive into an after-dark light trail from late November into early January. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and the last entry is at 9:30. It goes ahead rain or shine. A ticket is good only for the date picked when it was bought, and children 2 and under are free. The zoo has no parking lot of its own, and the free lots in Hermann Park outside it fill quickly. To see the animals themselves, the zoo says to come during the day. Animal lanterns are set along the light path, and lights wrap around oak trees about a hundred years old. There are s'mores stations, and the cafes sell hot chocolate and churro fries. Snow falls every night in one stretch of the trail.
