Original Greek Festival
3511 Yoakum Blvd, Houston, TX 77006
About this happenin
The Original Greek Festival fills the grounds of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral at 3511 Yoakum Boulevard for three days in early October. The cathedral's parish puts it on, and the festival dates to 1966. It opens Thursday at 5 p.m. and Friday and Saturday at 11 a.m., and closes at 10:30 each night. Children 12 and under get in free, and so does everyone on Friday from 11 to 3. Souvlaki comes off an open flame. The menu also has pastitsio, spanakopita, dolmades and keftedes, plus a dinner plate that gives you a little of each, and the pastries sell from a tent of their own. Greek wine and beer are poured, and there are vegetarian dishes. Live music plays all weekend, with adult dancing in the evenings and youth dancers on Saturday. A marketplace sells handmade goods, and kids have a petting zoo and inflatables. Guided tours of the cathedral run several times a day.
More in October: 13 other Houston events.
