National Black Book Festival

About this happenin

Authors and readers meet at Fallbrook Church on Walters Road in Houston for the National Black Book Festival, which runs Thursday to Saturday in late October. General admission is free, seminars and featured author sessions included. Featured authors come by invitation, sent about a year ahead. Only three events need a ticket: a welcome reception on Thursday evening, a Friday breakfast and a Saturday awards breakfast. The Children's Festival is free, and every child who comes leaves with a free book. Out-of-town visitors can stay at the host hotel, the Sheraton North Houston near Bush Airport, about 20 minutes from the venue by car, and the festival runs a free shuttle between the two all weekend.

More in October: 13 other Houston events.
