About this happenin
McKinney Oktoberfest is three free days of polka bands and Alpine dancers on the square in Historic Downtown McKinney, at the end of September. It goes on rain or shine. Only the VIP Biergarten needs a ticket. Accordion players stroll between the stages. Stein holding and the weenie dog races take sign-ups, and the Kinder Korner has carnival rides, a petting zoo, a rock wall and face painting. Dirndls and lederhosen are encouraged and leashed dogs are welcome. It's cards, not cash, with no ATMs on site. Leave coolers, backpacks, bag chairs and outside food and drink at home, and take one of the free trolleys from First McKinney Baptist Church or City Hall. McKinney Main Street, a program of the City of McKinney, puts it on.
