Where to stay

Cinépolis and the W Dallas - Victory are both on Victory Park Lane, four minutes apart on foot. The W's valet is off-site at $70 a day. The SpringHill Suites on North Lamar Street is a nine-minute walk, and its off-site valet is $44 a day. No other Uptown hotels are as close as those two.

Eight days of screenings each April make up the Dallas International Film Festival, with Cinépolis Luxury Cinemas Victory Park in Dallas, steps from American Airlines Center, as its host cinema. More than 120 films play, picked from submissions sent in from over 100 countries. Its prizes for the best animated, documentary and narrative short films are Oscar qualifying, so a winning short can go on to qualify for the Academy Awards. Filmmakers and actors take questions after screenings, and the red carpet comes out every night. Winning screenplays get a live table read by actors. The Texas Theatre and Virgin Hotels Dallas have also hosted screenings and events. The nonprofit behind it was set up as Dallas Film Society in 2006 and held its first festival in 2007.
