Night of 1,000 Jack-o'-Lanterns
1000 Lake Cook Rd, Glencoe, IL 60022
About this happenin
Night of 1,000 Jack-o'-Lanterns lines a paved path at the Chicago Botanic Garden in Glencoe with hand-carved pumpkins lit from inside. Artists from the company Rise of the Jack O'Lanterns carve the largest ones, which weigh up to 150 pounds. Each takes 8 to 10 hours to illustrate and 10 to 20 more to paint and carve. Along the route there are live carving demonstrations and costumed performers, and caramel apples and hot cider are sold on the trail. The Garden closes at 5 p.m. on event days and reopens at 6 for ticket holders only. The event runs Wednesday through Sunday evenings for three weeks in October, rain or shine. Advance tickets cost less than day-of, and midweek off-peak times cost less again. Nonmembers pay for parking, $15 booked ahead or $25 on site, and members park free. Ride-share cars pay nothing. It has run for more than ten years.
More in October: 13 other Chicago events.
