Arts in the Dark Halloween Parade
Columbus Dr & Balbo Dr, Chicago, IL 60605
About this happenin
On a Saturday night in late October, the Arts in the Dark Halloween Parade moves north up Columbus Drive in Grant Park from Balbo, with Buckingham Fountain and the skyline behind it. LUMA8, which produces it, calls Halloween the artist's holiday. Chicago cultural organizations and youth arts programs fill the line with giant spectacle puppets and floats, and politicians and sponsor floats are kept out. It runs from 6 to 8 p.m., rain or shine. The parade began on Columbus and returned there once its crowd outgrew State Street, and LUMA8 now puts the audience at more than 100,000. The north end of the route fills first, so try the south end if you arrive late. Realistic weapons are banned, swords included, and the rule covers costumes in the crowd as well.
More in October: 13 other Chicago events.
