About this happenin
Frontier Days is a five-day festival around the Fourth of July at Recreation Park, 500 E. Miner Street in Arlington Heights. Frontier Days, Inc., a volunteer-run not-for-profit, has put it on since 1976, and nobody pays to get in. Carnival rides are sold by the day on a wristband. Bands play free on three stages, and volunteers cook the food. Out on the grass there is volleyball, baggo, pickleball, dog frisbee and water fights, plus a 5K and 10K called the Stampede. One carnival session is kept for people with special needs and a companion. On the morning of the Fourth comes the parade, one of the largest in the northwest suburbs by the organizers' count, and it finishes at the park. The park is four blocks east of downtown and walkable from Metra. Free shuttles run from two middle schools.
More in July: 16 other Chicago events.
