About this happenin
On a spring Sunday afternoon, the Greek Independence Parade marches down South Halsted Street through Greektown, with groups in traditional costume and dance troupes performing to Greek music. It dates to 1964. The Federation of Hellenic American Organizations of Illinois, known as ENOSIS, hosts it, and Greektown Special Service Area #16 is the sponsor. Step-off has been at 2 p.m. or 2:30 p.m. On parade day the Greektown Agora, a market of vendors selling Greek art, jewelry and gifts, has set up at Elysian Field on the corner of Halsted and Van Buren. Greektown has sat along South Halsted for more than 60 years.
