About this happenin
Runners in the Bank of America Chicago Marathon start and finish in Grant Park and cover 29 Chicago neighborhoods on the second Sunday of October. The course is flat and fast, and it has produced seven world records. About 55,000 runners from more than 100 countries take part, and an estimated 1.7 million spectators line the route. Spectators cannot get into the start and finish areas in Grant Park on race day. Those are for runners with bibs, event staff and ticketed guests. The organizers suggest picking a spot along the course and riding the CTA between points, then meeting your runner afterward at the 27th Mile Post-Race Party and the reunite area in Grant Park. A free app tracks individual runners. Cheer zones sit along the route, including a Charity Block Party near Mile 15. The Abbott Health & Fitness Expo opens at McCormick Place on the Thursday before.
More in October: 13 other Chicago events.
