Austin's custom-ride subculture rolls into South Austin for a free afternoon of chromed-out lowrider bicycles, pedal cars, and pint-size power wheels. Know before you go: the second annual Central Texas Custom Bicycle Festival runs Saturday, August 1 from noon to 5 PM at the South Austin Recreation Center, and admission is free. Expect an indoor show floor of trophy-worthy builds, an RC display area, a vendor village, live music and DJs, and the FrankenBike swap meet for anyone hunting parts. Winners collect plaques at the 5 PM awards. It is family-friendly, with a playground at the back of the park to keep kids busy between the show bikes.
