The gorge runs 800 feet at the base of Mount Liberty, a wooden boardwalk threading walls of Conway granite 70 to 90 feet high and 12 to 20 feet apart, Flume Brook loud below the planks. It is one leg of a 2-mile loop from the Lincoln visitor center, roughly 465 feet of gain, packed gravel and boardwalk stairs, about 1.5 hours. Avalanche Falls drops 45 feet at the head of the gorge, then the loop swings back past Table Rock, a covered bridge and Liberty Gorge. Franconia Notch State Park holds the rest: the Basin, Echo Lake, the Cannon Mountain tramway, the Old Man of the Mountain memorial plaza, the Franconia Ridge trailhead. Peak foliage usually lands late September into mid October, exactly when the timed-entry windows sell out. The 2026 season runs May 8 to October 25, $18 adults online versus $21 at the window. Boardwalks come out for winter and the gorge closes with them.
