About

The state park takes up the eastern end of St. George Island, across the bridge from Eastpoint, and its nine miles of beach are undeveloped. East Slough Beach, near the entrance, is the busier one. The park road ends at Sugar Hill Beach, an easy walk from the campground, and past it a gate leads to the island's eastern tip, a 10-mile round trip that goes best on a bike. Birds crossing the Gulf in spring and fall stop in the oaks and pines around the campground, and Scissor-tailed Flycatchers and Western Kingbirds turn up every October. Leashed dogs are allowed in the park, just not on its beach.
