Aspen's four ski mountains cover more than 5,700 acres around a town 7,908 feet up in Colorado's upper Roaring Fork Valley. The Silver Queen Gondola runs up Aspen Mountain to the Sundeck at 11,212 feet in summer as well as ski season. For eight weeks each summer the Aspen Music Festival and School brings nearly 500 young artists to town, and its Michael Klein Music Tent seats 2,050. Silver had brought about 13,000 people here by 1893, the year the mines nearly stopped. Today about 6,612 people live in town year-round.
